If your differentiator is customer service, you have no differentiator
Every competitor in your sector says the same sentence, and no customer can verify it before buying. What actually works as a differentiator.
Neste artigo

Open five competitors' websites right now. Count how many say their differentiator is customer service, quality, or commitment to the client. It will be five.
Why the sentence does not work
A differentiator only exists if the customer can use it to decide. For that it needs three things at once: to be verifiable before the purchase, hard to copy, and relevant to that specific customer's decision.
Customer service fails all three.
It is not verifiable beforehand: the person only finds out whether you serve them well after hiring you, meaning after the decision you wanted to influence. Economists call that an experience attribute, as opposed to a search attribute, which can be checked in advance. A differentiator built on an experience attribute does not help you close, it helps you retain.
It is not hard to copy: any competitor can write the same sentence this afternoon, at no cost.
And it does not matter to the decision, because customers already assume decent service is the minimum. Nobody chooses a supplier expecting to be treated badly.
What is left when everyone says the same thing
When every competitor's argument is identical and unverifiable, the customer falls back on the only information they can compare objectively: price.
That is why a company that presents itself through service lives in an auction. It is not a lack of quality, it is a lack of an argument that can be checked in advance. I covered the mechanism in your competitor is worse and charges more, and the origin is almost always here.
How to turn service into a real differentiator
The path is not to abandon the idea. It is to make it concrete in something that can be checked before the purchase. Service becomes a differentiator when it becomes a public, verifiable commitment.
- →A deadline with consequences: reply within 4 business hours is a sentence. Reply within 4 business hours or the following month is not billed is a commitment, and nobody copies it without taking on the same risk.
- →Who does the work: every project is run by the owner of the studio, not by a junior team, is verifiable in the first meeting and expensive to copy for anyone with a large structure.
- →Written scope: how many revisions, what is included, what is not. A competitor who does not write it down starts to look vague next to you.
- →Public pricing: few competitors will do it. Publishing prices removes the probing phase and signals that the number does not change depending on the client's face. It is what we do at FAMOSO.® with the Diagnosis, the Agent and Vitrine.
- →A named method with steps: a process described step by step, with a deadline per stage, is verifiable in advance and shows repetition rather than improvisation.
- →Third-party proof: a case with numbers, a recognizable client, a public review. The customer checks that without relying on your word.
Notice the pattern: everything that works can be checked before signing, and costs something to whoever promises it. A differentiator that costs nothing to claim is worth nothing to whoever hears it.
The one-sentence test
Take your current differentiator and ask two questions.
First: could a competitor put that same sentence on their site tomorrow without changing anything in their operation. If the answer is yes, it is not a differentiator, it is filler.
Second: can a customer confirm it before paying me. If the answer is no, you have a promise, and the market is full of those.
Survive both and you have an argument. That is when it earns a place on the homepage, in the proposal, and in the first sentence of the sales conversation.
Perguntas frequentes
Why does customer service not work as a differentiator?
Because it cannot be verified before the purchase, can be copied by any competitor at no cost, and is already treated by customers as a minimum requirement rather than an advantage.
What makes a differentiator real?
Being verifiable before the purchase, costly to copy, and relevant to that customer's decision. Failing any of the three turns it into filler.
How do I turn good service into an argument?
By converting it into a public commitment with consequences: a guaranteed deadline, who does the work, written scope, published pricing, a method with steps, and third-party proof.
What is the quick test for a differentiator?
Ask whether a competitor could copy the sentence tomorrow without changing their operation, and whether the customer can confirm it before paying. Two bad answers mean there is no differentiator.
